I served onboard the Uss Ticondroga CVA14 from April 1964 - May 1966. I was a BT in fireroom 1. I am presently filing a claim at the VA because I have asbestos in my lung. I need to know if anyone has ever filed for disability benefits from the va with something similar. I also need to know if anyone has filed for a hearing loss or ringing of the ears. These thiings were caused by the extreme noise and the exposure to asbestos in the firerooms. Maybe you have the same thing as me . I would greatly appreciate anybody's help. I remember launching aircraft and throwing down those burners in the saturated side and the superheated sid of the boiler and keeping that steam pressure at 600psi without lifting safeties. We were some bad mother haunchers and w e didn't even know it. To all the BTS of the world who know the feeling keep on steaming brothers!!!!We were there in the Gulf Of Tonkin and were online 63 days. Maddox and Turner Joy were our escorts. Hats of to all you salts!!!

Recruit training center Great Lakes and then off to the USS Duluth while on deployment. From there to the Beachmaster Unit One Coronado and nursing school in my spare time to the wonderful country of Somalia where I was oh so happy to survive. AS soon as our return from there I graduated nursing school and the Navy made me a Corpsman and worked at the same day surgery unit at Naval medical center San Diego for a couple till i went of to Pensacola for aviation medicne training and then back to the USS Essex LHD. Spent a whole lot of time at see with this one. HS-2 the helo guys was my next visit. by this time I had four or five deployment under my belt and too many visits to the gulf and other wonderful vacation spots, I went to the Aviation Physiology training and landed in Lemoore CA. after 17 years of having a really good time the Navy no longer wanted me around and let me leave. An honorable discharge after 16 years and 9 months.

Served on active duty for 21 years, retiring from active naval service at the early age of 39. While on active duty, served at/on GLakes RTC,
CINCUSNAVEUR London, England, USS South Carolina (CGN 36), NWTGP @  NAS Coronado, CA, VP-31 NAS Moffett Field, CA, USS Acadia (AD 42), NSGA Skaggs Island, Sonoma, CA, USS Okinawa (LPH 3), and the USS Jason (AR 8). Went through a nasty divorce in 1995, retired from active duty in 1995, moved to Los Cruces, NM, in 1995 (with a Navy buddy named James Langfitt, and his family). Lived there for one year, then moved with this same family to
    Denver, Colorado.
I am looking for shipmates/old Navy buddies who might be interested in
rekindling those old friendships. Just wanted to let my old friends and brothers know that I am doing well, albeit 50% disabled, am re-married (VERY happily to the RIGHT person, this time), and am going to college to get my degree in 3-D illustration. I own and operate Tarnochtai Publishing, have written four books (one theological
discourse, and three children's books), self-published the theological
discourse and will be self-publishing the others within the year (2007). Oh, and I live in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. How much more blessed can one man be?

I was stationed at Bainbridge Md, for boot Camp, from August 63 to November 63, I then went remained at Bainbridge working in the Personnel Office evaluating Officers Records. I married while in and got pregnant and had to be discharged, which was wrong because they did not go by the Navy rules, it was a job and was suppose to be treated as such, work until delivery and then 6 weeks pregnancy leave and then go back to work. They also did me wrong, because In the end of bootcamp I started having back pains and my feet going numb, the doctors in sick call said it was nothing, so even after I got discharged, went to see a private doctor, he said the same thing, went so long with no treatment that when they finally did operate, the dissc just crumbled into pieces, wound up with a disable disease for the rest of my life. I live from day to day with nothing but pain. But is n't it strange how all my documents from sick call disappeared, so I can file for service connected. but while I was in, I loved it, was a boot camp petty officer and excelled in education. I am just sorry that I made the mistake in getting married and getting pregnant, or I would have made a career our of it. I really did love it. Navygirl Kat
