Joined reserves in 1959,went to Great Lakes recruit training center,and was
assigned to USS COTTEN DD669 at Norfolk Navy Yard for several months untill
she was decommisioned.Was then transferred to USS PARLE DE708 home port
was pier one providence R.I. Served aboard her as a reserve training ship, and
steamed back and forth to the carribean transporting and training USN
reservists.While serving aboard the Parle, my design for a ships mascot was
chosen for display upon the stack,and i was presented a brass plaque of the
same design, by my Division Ensign at the time. I was honorably discharged in
Sept 1961.
