    CECIL, "ED" HEWITT. born March 24, 1923, New Marshfield, Ohio: Enlisted in the Navy August 11, 1941, boot camp at Great Lakes, IL, assigned to U.S.S. Idaho, served in engine room on U.S.S. Idaho-BB-42, during WWII, (Oct. 1941 to October 1945). Participated in Seven major engagements from the Aleutian Islands to Okinawa.
         Reenlisted September 1947, attended Refrigeration & air-conditioning School, assigned to U.S. S. Philippine Sea(CV-47) December 1947- May 1952 , served two tours in Korea during Korean War; USNTC, San Diego, CA. Company Commander (May 52-Sep 55): U.S.S. Kearsarge-(CV-33) (Sep. 55-Dec 56): U.S.S. Wasp(CVS-18): (Dec. 56- Oct. 58) U.S.S. Independence(CV-60) (Oct-58-Sep 60): USNRS, Springfield, OH. (Sep. 60-Mar 63): U.S.S. Robert i,. Wilson(DD-847) (Mar 63-Feb 64) Completed courses in Mechanical Engineering, Criminal Investigation, Steam Engineering and Plant Management, Retired from U.S. Navy February 3, 1964.
         Medals earned during Navy Service: Good Conduct Medal 5 Stars, 2 Navy Unit Commendations, American Defense Service medal with "A," American Campaign, European Campaign, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign with 7 Stars, World War II Victory, Philippine Liberation, China Service, Armed Services Expeditionary, Navy Occupation, Korean Service, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, United Nations, National Defense

         After retiring from the U.S. Navy, worked as Chief Engineer for Horn & Hardart Baking Co., Philadelphia, PA: Plant Engineer for Hill Refrigeration, Trenton, N.J.: Civil Engineering Superintendent for RCA Service Company, Alaska..
         Three grown children, Donald Hewitt, SFC, USA (Ret) Sandra Hewitt Truby and John M. Hewitt. Enjoy traveling and going to reunions with my former shipmates.
         Life member of VFW Post 4209, Ocala, FL and Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 179, Gainsviile, FL. Life Member DAV. Member Florida Chief Petty Officers Association.
