Served from May'64 to Oct '67.Went to Great Lakes for recruit training-then returned there for FT"A" school.Assigned to the USS Herbert J.Thomas DD-833 which was in Mare Is. undergoing FRAM1.Was a test subject in the Shipboard Hazard And Defense(SHAD)tests.I was in operation "scarlet Sage" and operation "Purple Sage" which took place from Jan.'66 to March '66.These test sprayed us with a bacteriological agent as well as a substance that mimicked nerve gas.Went to WESTPAC in Sept.'66 .Yankee station with the Carriers Franklin D.Roosevelt and Coral Sea.We were in the gulf at the time of the Oriskany (CV-34)Fire which claimed 44 of her crew.Gunfire support in the Mekong delta from late '66 to early'67. Honorably discharged in San Diego Calif. Oct 10 '67
