 | Served from April 71 through January 75.  After Recruit Training
at San Diego
and QM "A" school also in San Diego, was assigned to USS Schenectady
(LST-
1185) based out of San Diego. With nearly three and a half years aboard
that
one ship I deployed twice to WestPac, in 71-72 and 73-74.  We
steamed in
Amphibious Squadron Five.  Vietnam service included a mission
in support of
Coastal River Squadron One with a disabled PG near Vung Tau. Later
we went
on lengthy station near the DMZ and Cua Viet during the Easter 72 Communist
offensive in Quang Tri province.  While in drydock at San Diego
I received a
three month early out to attend spring semester at college and was
Honorably
 Discharged in January 1975.
