Enlisted 1942 at Richmond, VA. (Originally from Southampton County,
VA.) Basic - Jacksonville, FL. Flight/Gunnery schools - Lake City, FL.
Navigation school - Whidbey Is., WA. Transferred to Sqadron VPB 200 at
Kaneoheo Bay, HI. In March, 1945 assigned as replacement crew to Sqadron
VPB 133 on Roi Namus, Marshall Islands. Navigator on VP1 "Sentimental
Lady".  Sqadron transferred to Tinian Is. Then crew served detached duty
on Iwo Jima twice. In August 1945, rotated out of sqadron, returned to
Whidbey Is., WA. Honorably discharged December 19, 1945.
