S. Navy family of dads, moms, brothers and sisters. Sometimes it seems as if it were only yesterday and yet, at other times it seems it never happened. What an experience, I am reminded of thoughts in which I measured my time growing up with family, but then the thought is upon me, which family. The U.S. Navy with all of my navy moms, dads, sisters and brothers turned out to be my "real family." Never had I known so many, many people who cared about me, taught me right from wrong and educated me. My navy family taught me how I should dress, speak, eat, walk and proper posture to name only a few. The first full song I learned in life was "Five hundred miles away from home" and I am still not certain if I have the title 100% correct, but when I am feeling really good and with some of my navy brothers and sisters, I love to reach back into time and sing that song. I recall after my first visit (a 20 day stay) in the Philippines I was ask the question (by a salty Ensign - if thats possible)"what do you have to show for your stay other than memories, you are broke and feel as though you want to go UA, get over it and grow up." Some years later I fully understood and immediately made changes in my life that remain with me to this day (I still single-ha, ha). There were so, so many of my navy family that contributed in similar fashions...and I thank my lucky stars they were there for me, always. For the record, I never once saw any sailor (male or female) that worked their tail off that did not get a fare shake, no matter the city, town, country or other. I am certain my few words are nothing compared to most of my navy family, I want to again thank each and everyone of you for directly or indirectly helping me (someone you helped helped someone else, just as I have done and try to do to this day) for if not for you I would be dead, sick, in jail or prison or on death row in this country or some other. I owe my life to my U.S. Navy moms, dads, sisters and brothers. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. God's Speed, Tony Massey. ****************************************** bvdps@aol.com Scott A.
